Wardle Skyline fell race Sat 7th Apr 2pm

I ran a recce of this course yesterday and it's a good one for anyone who isn't experienced on the fells, with nothing too steep or technical. On the day it will be marshalled and/or marked where needed (I ran with one of the marshalls), but you're never really out of sight of civilisation!
To get there please follow OL12 9LB, which will take you to the village and then continue straight through to park at the reservoir car park.
The course itself starts near the Scout Hut and proceeds up a road through the reservoir car park and then left past the reservoir and onto trails.  The hills are in the first 3 miles, with the biggest first "Brown Wardle" followed by a short descent and then the 2nd "middle hill".  From there you track past a quarry onto a short road section, with a gradual climb aiming for the highest point of the course near some windmills, at which point you'll hand in a token to prove you've been to the top!  From then on it's mostly flat or downhill, until the last mile where there is a small sting in the tail, shortly after a long, fast descent, so make sure you leave something in the tank for that. Then down some cobbles to the finish line at the pub!  It was pretty damp up there yesterday, so unless the sun comes out, expect some mud!  It was exactly 7 miles on my watch.
In terms of kit, don't take my word for it, but unless the weather is very bad then I assume that kit requirement will be limited to waterproof top.  But as always, come prepared! Any questions, give me a shout.  Tim

Rivington Pike fell race report
Reports of impending snow were proven false and even the rain held off, which made the race easy, right? Wrong! The hill was still there and it was just as hilly. Rivington Pike fell race, although short at 5k and satisfying to complete, is always a challenge simply because it is short and therefore fast. It's easy to misjudge your pace and I passed several runners in the first mile who had been caught out with heavy lactic by a deceptively quick start, followed by the gradually increasing and relentless gradient, which ends at the top of the Pike. And it's always a shock when you finally reach the summit to round the tower and start the anticipated and longed-for easy downhill bit, only to find that your legs have somehow been replaced by Jemima Puddleduck's waddle.  So well done to all nine of the intrepid A&T fell crew who battled the wind, cold, hills and lactic acid to complete the race, all with smiles on their faces (eventually!) for a job well done.
The next race is a 7 mile trot at Wardle Skyline next Saturday 7th April.
