TCS London Marathon 2022 further update – by Mark Riches

My earlier update refers, I have had further correspondence from the TCS London Marathon Team – see below

“We’re writing to correct the information in the email we sent you last week about your club’s places in the 2022 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 2 October.

As we explained, we want to ensure all clubs that previously held places in the event will have at least one club place in 2022. A further review of our data shows your club does not have any rolled-over places from 2020 or deferred entries from 2021. Therefore, we will be allocating you one new entry for the 2022 event.

There is no further action required now and we will email your entry console to you by the end of April so you can allocate the place within your club. Please note the closing date for entries is 22 August 2022.”

If you want to be considered for the Club place please email me markriches61@gmail.com by Thursday 31st March 2022at the latest

Qualifying criteria is contained in Section 3 of the Club Constitution HERE

TCS London marathon 2022 update – by Mark Riches

I received an email today from Hugh Brasher TCS London Marathon Event Director, extract below

“The 2021 event was an extraordinary day. While the atmosphere on the day was fantastic, the reality is that a record number of places were not used and rolled over to 2022. This, together with the number of places allocated to 2022 from the cancelled 2020 event, means we must take steps to reduce the number of entries for the 2022 TCS London Marathon so the new maximum capacity of 50,000 finishers is not exceeded.

Accordingly, clubs that already have a runner rolled over from a previous London Marathon will not be offered any additional places.

We realise this will be disappointing news, but we hope you understand why we have taken this step. We have had to make changes to other entry categories as well, so this action of reducing previous allocations is not limited to running clubs.

In 2023 we hope to return to the previous system for allocating club places, but this does depend on the uptake of places in 2022.”
