A&T X-country by Mark Riches

The third race in this year’s cross-country champs is this Saturday (29th October) at Cuerden Valley Park Bamber Bridge PR5 6BY

Yo can use any of the four parking sites around the perimeter of the park but will probably have to pay a parking fee. Follow signs to the lake, cross along the side of it and the competition area is straight ahead

This is a Mid Lancs race so wear the number you wore at Chorley. If you didn’t run at Chorley, please see Keiran on Saturday as he has the numbers. Unfortunately, I can’t be there as I have a prior family commitment

If you haven’t been pre-entered, Keiran can arrange registration on the day, which is free

Start times – ladies 2:00 pm (6K) & men 2:30 pm (10K)

We are a well established swimming club looking mainly at open water competitions.

We have mixed ability training sessions and encourage swimmers who may want to increase their fitness and train to schedules.

I can offer stroke technique sessions and fitness training to a pace clock to individuals who feel they can benefit from this.

Over the next three weeks we will be offering these sessions at a cost of £3 per session without having to pay any other membership.

Also at the end of November there is a 1500 metres club swim which will give all swimmers something to aim for.

I am an experienced open water swimmer winning the British Veterans Championship 13 times and still hold various open water records. I have a long experience of encouraging new swimmers and would look forward to spending time with new members.

LSV XC by Gary Stevens

Despite many members being in Palma or doing the Manchester Half there were still a good turn out of blue vest at Leigh for the first Red rose race of the season.
The conditions could not have been better, with warm sunshine and hardly any mud on the course, more like a trail race than a cross country.

Jackie Price led the ladies team home in the 5k 23.57 followed by Sue Fletcher 25.41, Linda Whittaker 26.24, Kerry Lomas 29.08 and Kay Campbell 31.30.

The men's race was 6.6 miles with Tim Campbell once again leading home the team in 40.14.  Simon Ford had a great race in 42.11, followed by Neil Hughes 44.13 and Gary Stevens 46.23.   Mark Collins made his first appearance in XC clocking 47.31 with Matt Thorpe 48.41 next still recovering from his GB Triathlon appearance in Mexico.  Scott Priestly 49.25 out sprinted Brendan Loughrey 49.26 and Kieron Lomas 49.31.  Chris Bennett 50.36 who thought it was 2 laps was next followed by Phil Spencer-Gray 54.47.

Once again thanks to everyone who came out to support us, your shouts were well received by all the runners.

Gin Pit 5 Online Entries Closing Soon

Final reminder that Gin Pit 5 entries will be closing at 3pm today.

Last chance to enter

Thursday, 6 October 2016

Thank you to everyone who has entered, it's been a record pre-entry.   There will be entries taken on the day but only the first 250 to enter will get a race t-shirt.  The club have agreed to allow an extra 50 people to enter on the understanding those runners will not be eligible for a race t-shirt, but can enter at a slightly reduced entry fee.

·         Please note Tyldesley town centre will be closed on Sunday due to roadworks. This closure should only affect those travelling from Atherton/Tyldesley direction. We would advise approaching Gin Pit from Astley direction and driving up Princes Ave.
Further details of roadworks are here (point 23 Castle Street) :

There are diversions in place but please ensure adequate time to allow for this

·         Parking will be very limited at GinPit club. We would advise runners to car share where possible and park on Princes Ave (allowing for 5/10 min walk to registration/start). Please DO NOT park on Ley Road (the road leading upto the club)

We would advise people to arrive 10am so you have time to park, register and warm up.

·         There will be no food available at the club house after the race but the bar will be open and tea/coffee machine available

We look forward to seeing you all there on what is forecast to be a glorious day for racing!

Chorley XC by Gary Stevens

The XC season started this year at Astley Park, Chorley on a glorious afternoon, mild for the time of year.  Questions turned to spike length as the field was dry, but after a short debate 12mm was the call by most runners.
It was great to see some new faces turning out in the mud representing the club, and was good to see Alex Foster back in a blue vest, who is currently in a recovery period from another epic season of racing in the triathlon.
As ever we had great support around the course, Jon Hall and Cath Worsley standing at the top of the killer hill and Emma Stevens near the kids park, Thanks for your shouts!

In the ladies race Jackie was first finisher in 28.21, followed by Linda Whittaker 31.52, Kerry Lomas 33.42 and Tracey Loughrey 38.21.

In the mens Tim Campbell won the battle of the mud/fell lovers in 39.12, followed by Alex Foster 42.22, Neil Hughes (not currently on the results), Simon Ford 43.03, Gary Stevens 47.52, Keiron Lomas 48.44, Phil Riley 50.32, Scott Priestley 51.04 and Phil Spencer-Grey 51.28.

Unfortunately Brendan had to pull out on the last lap with injury.
