GP5 course record vote; Sunday 28th February 2016 at 8pm - by Mark Riches

Those present at the AGM last Saturday will be aware of the background to this and the discussion has been captured in the meeting notes, which will be posted on the website

The idea behind changing the course record was to attract  new runners and due to a change of course EA confirmed we were able to do this. It was felt (rightly or wrongly) that the decision lies not with the club but the race director

It became clear at the AGM that members felt  that a vote should have been taken on this and/or communication about the decision shared ahead of the race. Therefore, I suggested we have a meeting to vote on the 3 options listed below:

1.       Do nothing
2.       Change the course significantly at the next race
3.       Reinstate the record
At the meeting we will also be looking to fill a couple of Committee positions, namely Road Captain & Race Director, if you are interested in taking on either role, please email

Manchester marathon 10th April 2016 REMINDER – by Mark Riches

I mentioned this at the AGM on Saturday

f you want to help out at this year’s race, part of the pre-race preparation is to register your details on line. This information is needed for emergency contact details and also so that the organisers can order any clothing in the right sizes. It also helps me to see how marshal registration is progressing as we need to provide 20 marshals again this year in order to have our usual water station

The registration will take just a couple of minutes and the process is as follows:

·         Use the link
·         click on drink station marshals
·         enter the group code for Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners which is astlandtyl2016
·         then complete the personal details as requested.

The organisers make a considerable donation to A&T club funds in return for us supplying marshals

I am stepping down as Race Director

Just to inform everyone I am stepping down as Race Director.

I feel after last night’s AGM I have had enough. The decision on changing the course record was suggested by me and was discussed with the committee. We were in our right do this and thought it would attract more people. Making the event bigger, which it did. I did not do this to upset members and feel I have so it is best I step down.

After the complaint was received, I dealt with this by contacting all parties involved and explained why. This was sorted

So let’s hope someone can step up and do grand job this year.

2016 Subscriptions

2016 club subscriptions are now due.  You can pay online using the paypal link (top right side of the blog).

As agreed at last nights AGM the fees have been set at £30.00 for a renewal and £35.00 for a new member.

If you are a new member please use the drop down box and select "new member"

You have 28 days from the AGM to renew.

Road Captain Resignation

As a result of personal work pressure, peaked by the exchange at the AGM (documented in AOB) I feel that my position within the club has now become untenable.

Therefore, with immediate effect I will be stepping down from the role of Road Captain and member of the coaching team.

Should anyone wish to take up the role, an outline of responsibilities is detailed below and contact should be made with Mark Riches, club secretary at the earliest opportunity.
