A&T X-Country Saturday 16TH January 2016 at Hyndburn – by Mark Riches

This was the first Club race of 2016 & our second visit to Hyndburn this season; fair to say it was a little colder this time around!

The 2 A&T ladies, Susan Fletcher (31:48) & Kerry Lomas (40:14) were first to brave the conditions – well done ladies; especially Kerry who chose terrible conditions to make her cross-country debut!

Next it was the turn of the 5 A&T men; Tim Campbell (42:09) was first A&T finisher followed home by Scott Priestley (51:32) Keiran Lomas (54:30) and Paul Basnett (55:19) Completing the line-up and making his debut on the country this season was  Chris Whittaker (66:31) – well done lads

Thanks to Kerry & Keiran for looking after the tent, flag & numbers

Next race in the club champs is on Saturday 13th February 2016 at Cleveleys – make a note in your diaries

Parking Instructions for Hyndburn Cross-Country Event

Parking within the grounds of Wilson Playing Fields is limited and mostly taken by marshals, helpers and officials, so, if you are unable to get into this parking please follow the instructions below.

Choose one of these alternatives.

(1) On Whalley Road (the main road running north to south along the side of Wilson Playing Fields, the A680) avoiding the areas where road works have narrowed the road.

(2) On the estate entered by Tarn Avenue, west off Whalley Road just north of the entrance to Wilson Playing fields.

(3) On the estate entered by Lancaster Drive, east off Whalley Road to the south of Wilson Playing Field.  (Note the road immediately south of Wilson Playing Fields is blocked off as is Sparth Road, the road opposite).

From the top eastern end of this estate, Oxford Avenue has a surfaced path all the way into where the event is being held in Wilson Playing Fields.

Beginner sessions start next week...

The next block of 10 beginner sessions starts on Monday 18th January finishing on 21st March.
If you know anyone who would like to come along please feel free to spread the word. The sessions are run free of charge and no running experience is necessary.
The aim of beginners group is simply to encourage people to get involved in jogging/running to support their own personal health and fitness goals.  The first session is a very gentle introduction to running - there's no pressure so come and have a go, everyone is welcome.

Meeting time: 6.30pm, every Monday.
Duration of session: 45 mins
Venue: Car Park near Track Leigh Sports Village
Session lead: Barb White
Cost: FREE

Garstang 10k by Gary Stevens

3 A&T'ers travelled to Garstang last Sunday to compete in this very popular 10k.

After record rainfall and a massive downpour during the early hours of Sunday morning they had to call off the fun run.  My daughter Annabel was disappointed as she was about to make her debut in an official race.  The 10k however just about made it, but only through them having to pump all the water off the course.

The 10k consisted of a 1 x 2 mile loop and 1 x 4.2 mile loop around tight country lanes and over a few hills, the flooded roads and gusty wind made it a tough day at the office.

Results out of 503 finishers

52nd Gary Stevens 40.44
127th Kieran Lomas 44.45
365th Kerry Lomas 57.18

A&T Club Champs Races 2016

Although the AGM is a few weeks away, for those of you already wanting to plan ahead for your racing season here are the dates of the club races for this year.

I'm using the same format as 2015 so our club champs include all the CLGP races except Gin Pit 5 (9th October) and will again include the popular Gin Pit Half Marathon.  For anyone wanting to do Malc's full Marathon you will still collect points for the half.

Collating and checking all the Parkruns was a big job in 2015 so although many of us like to race at different venues the only qualifying venue for club champs this year will be our home Parkrun - Pennington Flash. This makes it a level (or not) playing field for everyone and less work for me!

I'm hoping to see at least as many club racers as 2015 but if we can increase our numbers that would be great!

Good luck to you all, whatever your racing plans for 2016.
Hope to see you all on the start line :D
