A&T X-country Liverpool 28/11/15 – by Mark Riches

As usual this Mid Lancs fixture was held in conjunction with the British Athletics Cross Challenge, which means we get to run with Britain’s best runners like this year’s men's winner Ross Millington pictured above, who completed the 9.8k course in an amazing 30.09

7 A&T runners made the 45 minute journey to Liverpool this year. It was Kieran Lomas’ turn to cover for me as x-country captain (thanks Kieran)

The 3 A&T ladies Jackie Price, Sue Fletcher and Michelle Fairclough were the first to tackle the 8.1k course. It was a very big field (292 finishers) and Jackie (36.16) was first A&T finisher. Followed by Sue (37.53) and Michelle (46.17) – well done ladies

Next it was the turn of the men (9.8K this time) to tackle this fast flat course along (574 finishers in this one!) Tim Campbell (38.20) was first A&T finisher. Scott Priestley (46.35) and Kieran (47.42) were next with Paul Basnett (49.01) completing the line-up – well done lads

Next race Saturday 5 December at Marl Pitts

Wanted: A New Tri Captain for 2016 season

Vacancy: Tri Captain, 2016 season. Committee position

Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and within our club.  The A&T Tri section has gone from strength to strength over the last 3 years with 2015 seeing more club members than ever getting involved.
After two years as Tri Captain Jonny Hyde will be stepping down at the end of 2015 so the club is now looking to find a new captain from within the club.
As the committee begin to plan the AGM agenda for January 2016 we agreed it would be a good idea to share this vacancy formally to give people a chance to think about it. So if you're interested in taking this role on please contact Jonny to discuss the scope of the role.
We have a lot of members interested in Tri and things that worked well in the past include organising group rides, support with Transition training, advice on kit, signposting to swim sessions, training plans, BTF membership and advice on which races to start with etc.
The committee has already agreed that rules for club Tri scoring/results for 2016 will have to be re-written and published by the new captain and a review/refresh of the Tri section club internet page will also be needed - full support can be given with this.
2016 is a big year for Tri with 15 members signed up to Ironman alone! We have much to look forward to and need an enthusiastic captain to take over the reigns from Jonny who will be concentrating on his own Ironman training.
A big thanks to Jonny from the committee for his contribution as captain over the past two years.

A&T X-Country Saturday 21st November 2015 at Bolton – by Mark Riches

A&T X-Country Saturday 21st November 2015 at Bolton – by Mark Riches

Another good turnout of 6 ladies & 9 men, despite the bitterly cold weather. James Bentall was acting x-country captain, again, as I was working at the Etihad Stadium

The ladies set off to tackle the very challenging 5k course and Josie Maley just got the better of Suzanne Gregory 24.50 to 25.05. They were followed home by Susan Fletcher (25.46) and Michelle Fairclough (30.34) next it was Tracy Loughney (33.39) who took after race treats to a whole new level with the amount of chocolate she brought along for the team with Clare Unsworth (33.51) completing the A&T line-up – well done ladies. Finally, a big well done to Hannah Warburton who ran as a guest and finished in a time of 33.39

Next it was the turn of the men; 10.2k this time. First A&T finisher, again, was Tim Campbell (39.52) followed home by Brendan Loughney (45.36) The next 2 finishers Scott Priestley (48.23) and Chris Scholes (48.26) had a ‘battle royal’ followed home by Kieron Lomas (50.14) James (50.37) and Paul Basnett (51.52) with Ian Hamilton (56.43) and Rob Foster (58.51) completing the line-up – well done lads

Thanks again to James for looking after the tent, flag & numbers again while I was consoling City fans at the Etihad!

Next race in the club champs is on Saturday 28st November at Sefton Park Liverpool – make a note in your diaries

A&T X-Country Saturday 7th November 2015 at Hyndburn – by Mark Riches

A&T X-Country Saturday 7th November 2015 at Hyndburn – by Mark Riches

As I was looking for somewhere to park I saw Josie Maley & Jackie Price walking along the pavement towards the course about 5 minutes before the start of the ladies race. However it turns out that the start had been delayed by 15 minutes due to an accident on the motorway so Josie had plenty of time!
Josie & Jackie had a great battle on the very muddy 5k course with Jackie getting the nod by 1 second 23.50 to 23.51. Susan Fletcher (24.11) was next with Michelle Fairclough (31.07) and Emma Higgins (32.59) completing the line-up – well done ladies

Next it was the turn of the men; 10k this time. First A&T finisher was Turbo Tim Campbell (pictured in action above) in a time of 40.39 with yours truly (Mark Riches) making a rare appearance on the country next in 47.48. Scott Priestley (49.59) and James Bentall (50.50) completed the line-up – well done lads
Thanks again to James for looking after the tent, flag & numbers again
