Race Report - Central Lancs 5k

Central Lancs 5k Race Report

Congratulations to every runner who raced in the first race of our club champs 2015.  26 A&T vests graced the start line with some new faces and some returning from injury.  We welcomes Stuart Threeten, Rachel Haslam, Jennie Western & Nicola Young as first time racers for the club along with a warm welcome back to Carol Mills who has been out of action for a while and also Lynn Boylin who although a regular at training hasn't raced for a while. Both ladies were very nervous and did absolutely brilliantly!
I also returned from what feels like the longest achilles inury in the world and was spectacularly slow compared to 2014 (3 minutes slower) but still looked fabulous crossing the finish line so that's all that matters!

The course this year had changed to keep it enclosed as much as possible within the park as last year many runners spilled out into the roads causing concern for BUH. The route appeared to measure slightly longer than 5k with small variances recorded on various garmins, so if this is the case you should all be delighted with your performances, some great times were recorded and the full results will be published soon (please let me know if you think you are in the wrong division too and this will be amended).

First over the line for A&T was Mark Riches in a time of 19.06 followed closely by Tim Campbell (19.11) and Neil Hughes (19.24) - well done guys!  First lady back was Josie Maley in a time of 20.46 followed by Jackie Price (21.58) and Suzanne Gregory hot on her heels (21.59) - brilliant running ladies.

Some prizes were also awarded to our runners. A big hug and thank you to The Baron for staying to collect awards and sharing on FB. Big congratulations to our winners!

1st FV35 - Jackie Price (Bag & Trophy)
2nd FV 45 - Kim O'Neill (Wine & Trophy)

Lastly, the runner of the day prize (v. expensive bottle of wine) goes to Chris Bennett for knocking a whopping 1 minute 26 seconds off his 2014 time (must be all that track training!!). Well done Chris, great racing!
Other runners beating their 2014 times were Vanessa Thomson (28 seconds) James Bentall (15 seconds) and Neil Hughes (12 seconds).

Next race Trotters 5, 01.03.15 - look forward to seeing another great turn out.

Barb x

Race 1 (Road) 2015 - Rally call!!!

RACE TIME!

If you don't know already (where've you been?) this Sunday is our first race of the Road Calendar at Leverhulme Park, Bolton - The Central lancs 5k.

We have an A&T convoy leaving Atherton Station at 9.10am sharp so come along, especiallly if its your first race for the club and you're not sure what to do/where to go etc. We will be leaving bang on so aim to be there at 9.00am to be safe so we can all get parked up and queued up at registration.  For those going directly to the venue, the race starts 10.30am - see you there.

For our marathon trainers, keep up the great work, hope to see you all at one of the other races. We will miss you :(

It would be amazing to see a big royal blue turn out for this race, the same, if not more than 2014 so dig your vest out and get your game face on team - its' race time!!

See you there #TeamA&T
Capt. Wiggins xx

A&T cross-country champs 07/02/15 – by Mark Riches

Yesterday was a memorable occasion; the inaugural A&T cross-country champs (Shaun’s vision) took place around GP. Shaun, Suzanne & I put the finishing touches to the course, which Shaun had marked out on the previous day before the rest of the runners arrived

We had 6 ladies & 10 men complete the race with Dave & Shaun marshalling and Barb as timekeeper.  Before the delayed start, Shaun took everyone around the majority of the course to ensure that nobody got lost

Everyone set off together with the ladies running 2 laps (4 miles) and the men 3 laps (6 miles.) Everyone that is except Suzanne, who had a shoe malfunction and had to run to the car to put on another pair! Results were posted in my earlier Blog HERE

After the race we did a short warm down and the feedback was that everyone seemed to enjoy the well marked out, challenging course (well done Shaun)

It was then time for the presentation at GP where prize winners listed below were called up one at a time to chose a prize from various items of A&T kit (it resembled the Next sale at one point!)

Ladies
1st Josie 2nd Jackie 3rd Louise
1st Vet Clare & ‘run of the day’ Suzanne

Men
1st Tim 2nd Neil 3rd Jon H
1st Vet Mark R & ‘run of the day’ Stuart

A&T X-Country Saturday 31st January 2015 at Heaton Park – by Mark Riches

Only 6 A&T runners turned up at a cold and windy Heaton Park and Tim Campbell had already put the tent up when me & my wife, Jo Riches, who had decided to compete in her second x-country race of the season, arrived

It was soon time for the ladies, pictured above, to tackle 2 large laps (7500m) and Susanne Gregory led the way with another great run finishing 13th in a time of 34.45 followed by Jo (43.11) and Clare Unsworth (48.37) – well done ladies

Next it was the turn of the men; 3 large laps (9000m) this time. As usual, Tim led the way finishing a magnificent 7th in a time of 39.05. ever-present Neil Hughes (42.51), despite pulling up at training on Wednesday, passed me before the start of the second lap and set off after Simon Ford (42.33), who just managed to hold him off. Yours truly (Mark Riches) completed the line up in a time of 44.02 – well done lads

After a quick warm-down, we enjoyed the chocolate biscuits (thanks Suzanne) put the tent away; well Neil & Tim did with me & Clare supervising and set off home

Final race in the Club Champs is on Saturday 28th February at Boggart Hole Park – see you there

Gin Pit Half Marathon - more A&T entries needed!

Gin Pit Half

Race 3 of this year's club champs is the Gin Pit Half on 22nd March. As you know entry is limited to 50 runners with priority being given to A&T for a limited time.
So far only 14 A&T runners have entered so if you're thinking of entering please do so as quickly as possible so that we can take a decision on whether or not to open it up to other clubs sooner.
We will review the number of entries on Friday this week.
For more information and online entry please see Malc's blog

Thanks Barb & Malc

A&T Cross-Country Champs 2015

****Remember this weekend is the best Cross Country event you will ever do!! ****

This is perfect for all members who have not given XC ago, mud, running you cannot ask for anything more.
A&T Cross-Country Champs 2015

We have decided to arrange a A&T members only cross-country race around GP on Saturday 7 February 2015 starting at 11:15

Shaun has a 2 mile (approx.) loop in mind and championship distances will be 4 miles for women & 6 miles for men

There will be prizes for 1st 3 men & women plus 1st veteran (40+ men & 35+ women)

This is a great opportunity to try cross-country in a friendly supportive environment (cross-country version of Parkrun!) and there is the opportunity to run alternate distance (in multiples of 2) but you will not qualify for prizes unless you run the championship distances of 4 miles (women) / 6 miles (men)

Come along and give it a try - "mud is good"
