Swinton 10 Miler by Captain Wiggins

Swinton 10 Mile Race Report

Not a bad turn out of Blue A&T Vests turned out to the final CLGP of the season.  20 runners made the start line, the exact amount that turned out at last years, infamous “Swinton 10 Miler”.
The well known route for many of the runners, was well marshalled and consists of 2 large loops starting out across the A580 down onto Folly lane and back up Lancaster Road.
The morning was nice and dry and seemed like perfect running conditions but as the morning progressed the humidity made the long distance seem even longer.
First three A&T men back were Tim Campbell in 1:02:05 with Shaun Moran who was 1st in his category and hot on Tim’s heels in 1:02:07 and Mark Riches 3rd in his category in 1:02:23 brilliant running lads!
Dave Sloan and Gary Stevens also almost hand in hand finishing 1:05:55 and 1:05:56 respectively with Graham Rands under a minute later in 1:06:46 well done (great to have you racing with us again Graham).
Ian Newcombe consistently putting it in with another 1:08:52 same time as last year, with picture perfect Chris Scholes next over the finish in 1:10:43 well done lads.
Craig Badbury had a blinding race and battled hard in the humidity finishing the race looking more like he’d been for a swim but knocking an amazing 7 minutes off last years time with a finish time 1:12:32 , his brilliant effort makes him our runner of the day -  Huge well done Craig, bottle of vino on its way.
First lady home was our lovely Suzanne Gregory 1:14:47 well done Soozy! With James Bentall coming in just behind in 1:15:15 – great work as he had the mother of all blisters – ouch!  2nd lady and finishing 3rd in her category was Carole Baines finishing in 1:17:01 well done Carole.
Paul improving Basnett was next to complete the loops in 1:25:21, With Claire Matchwick closely following finished in 1:26:17.
Next came Jane Eccleston who had another cracking run finishing in 1:27:44, with Ian Samson Bushrod chasing her down crossing in at 1:28:02.  Following Ian was Vanessa Thompson who was glad to see the finish as a spot chocolate prize was waiting , completed in 1:32:23 well done Vanessa.
Ian Hamilton completing the men’s line up finished in 1:41:58 good work Ian, with our bird Clare Unsworth completing the loops and 1 mile more than required, following a knock to the head by a dead pigeon, I think this may have caused some confusion with left and right powers of turning,  however still a fab time of 1:47:14 achieved.  Well done Clare!
Finally a brief mention for Chris Bennett who ran the first 5 mile but needed to pull out due to injury so reverted to much appreciated cheer leader for our hardy troops!
Well done Team, a great finale to the road champs. Big thanks from your road captains for supporting the club races, the final results will be published early November after the final park runs have been submitted.
