Lymm 5k

On Saturday afternoon 6 A&T road runners competed in the last race of the North Cheshire 5k Grand Prix series at Lymm. For those of you who remember the very hot day a couple of years when it was part of the A&T road champs will perhaps also remember how undulating the course is. The course starts with a fast downhill section before it makes more of an ascent for the last 2 miles to finish pretty much where the race began.

The race was completed by 200 runners where Liam Renton of Warrington AC was first to cross the finish line in 15.38. Colin Kay was the first back for A&T clocking 19.10 for 38th position overall. Colin also won the V55 prize for the race and for the whole series. Well done Colin. Scott Christey, who also ran the Worsley Woods parkrun that morning, ran out of gas at around 3k to finish a bit off his usual pace with 19.31 and 43rd position. The Baron finished a few minutes later with 22.21 and gaining a couple of places on the run in to grab 107th position. A few seconds later was Ian "Bacon Mon" Hamilton who had also ran the Pennington Flash parkrun that morning and he completed in 22.48 for 121st position. Bev Tickle had another good run on not the easiest courses to finish in 168th position with 27.10. Completing the A&T line up was Clare Unsworth who also that morning ran the Pennington Flash parkrun and she sprinted in for the cameras to finish with 31.38 and 190th place. Clare then proceeded to take part in the fun run where I believe her kids beat her and I think it was captured on video! Watch out for the video of the main race and fun run finish on here soon!

It was then back to where registration was for the complementary cake and tea or coffee and then the presentation.
Wednesday 27th June meeting at the Gin Pit at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm prompt start.

Penny Lane Striders 10k by Garry Baines

On the advice that it would be a "nice" race, Carole, Sue Fletcher and I ventured out to the banks of the Mersey for the Penny Lane 10k. There we were met by a strong breeze, running the first two miles into it, slippy and muddy woodland trails, and boggy rugby fields. Despite all this Carole smashed her PB by 28 seconds getting back in 45:06. Sue came in next in 46:53 leaving me trailing with 47:27. Times were generally slow.

Just a little reminder to all A&T members

Eddies Revenge Fell Race on Wednesday 27th June
The fell season has got off to a pretty slow start this year with only five members taking part in the first three races.

The next race - Eddies Revenge, is a great race for any members that would like to try out the fells, it is less than four miles and is runable almost the whole way round (there are a couple of short steep bits that we walk up)

So please come along and show our captain some support - you wont regret it, the fells have a great atmosphere and you dont have to worry about times or PB's

The race starts at 7.30 Meet at the train station at 6.30

£4 entry on the day

3.8mile, 1060ft Partially marked course

Freckleton Half Marathon by Steve Coleman

This Sunday saw the oldest half marathon in its 47 year, also one that starts in the afternoon at 2 PM. The sun came out at the wrong time so became a warm one. Not flat and full weeks before hand. Also state you have to be there at 1 15 at the very latest but sorry to say I did not get there on time! Came in six seconds faster than last year at 1h 27m 21s. The week before I did the Potters Alf which is hill loving half and missed out on gold medal this year coming in at 1h 30m but not bad as still injured then.

Horwich 5k by Gary Stevens

Today i ran the Horwich 5k, one of my favourite races of the year.

The course itself is 3 loops around the closed roads of Horwich town centre with a gradual 400 mtr climb on each lap.

Today's race was won by James Riley of Liverpool in 15 Min's 30 with 1st lady Katie Hewitson (Ingram)
16 min 42

I was chuffed to bits with my run of 18 Min's 18 secs, finishing strong in 12th place.

Dunham Massey 5k

On Thursday evening 4 A&T road runners competed in the 4th race of the North Cheshire 5k Grand Prix series at Dunham Massey. This was the second visit to Dunham Massey in the series and this time the race was run in the opposite direction. The weather on this occasion was a lot cooler with a spot or two of rain in the air.

The race was completed by 203 runners were Ben Riddell of Salford Harriers was first to cross the finishing line in 15.11. Scott Christey was first past the post for A&T coming 46th with a time of 18.30. Colin Kay again followed Scott closely in with 18.47 and 54 position. The Baron put the disappointment of the race the evening before to put in a strong finish to clock 22.06 and 129th position. I believe trying to catch the lady in front of him helped. Bev Tickle also had a very good run to go under 27 for the first time in 2 years with 26.57. Well done Bev. Everyone went home pleased with their evenings efforts.

The final race of the series is at Lymm on Saturday June 23rd.

Three Sisters 5k

A fantastic turn out of 31 A&T blue vests turned out for the 5th race of this years CLGP being the Three Sisters 5k hosted by Wigan Pheonix. The race is a new addition to the CLGP calendar and is a substitution for the old favourite at Haigh Hall. It was billed as flat and fast in the flyer in which some may argue with but A&T provided it with some outstanding performances. The course was mainly trails consisting of 2 laps around the lake followed by one big lap on the trails surrounding the carting circuit. Along the route there were some sharp turns to negotiate although the course was pretty dry. I could see some parts getting quite boggy if the weather prior to the race was less favourable.

There was a strong field of 175 runners who completed the race with Anthony Valentine of Bolton United Harriers taking the spoils with a time of 16.15. Alex Foster crossed the line first for A&T in 10th position with 17.34. Simon Ford was hot on his heels finishing 14th with 17.49. Mark Riches had another good race coming second V50 with his time of 18.13. Mike Reason had a stormer to get his PB and finish just ahead of Pete Chan with 18.31 and 18.34 respectively. Looks like the ironman training for Mike is paying dividends and it was good to see Pete racing in an A&T vest once again. Ian Newcombe, who is putting in consistently good performances, came next with 18.48. Ian finished just ahead of the tussle between Gary Stevens and Scott Christey with Gary getting the nod by 1 second with 18.52. Dale Kenyon had a cracking run and broke the 20 minute barrier with style attaining a PB with 19.40. Well done Dale! Dale finished just ahead of Robin Chan who also had a good race to post a time of 19.52. Terry Gardiner having a resurgance this year after an injury prone season last year finished with 20.26. Terry just managed to hold off Josie Maley who was our first lady home and 8th lady overall clocking 20.30. It was good to see Jason Owen back racing in an A&T vest and he finished with 20.56. Chris Scholes just managed to cross the line in front our second lady home Carole Baines. I believe both Chris and Carole both attained theirs PBs with 21.32 and 21.33 respectively. Well done to them! Steve Foster had a good race and finished just behind this tussle with 21.39. It was good see Andy Coates racing once again for A&T and he put in a good performance to clock 21.57. Garry Baines appears to be making good progress on his comeback to run in with 22.30. I hope the good progress continues for him. Suzanne Gregory had a strong finish to cross the line just behind Gary with 22.33. Ray Taylor on his first CLGP outing of this year put in a good run to finish with 22.36. The Baron, who blew a gasket around the 4k marker, managed to get across the line in 22.45. KellyAnne Towns had a good race and finished a few second later with 22.48 and a PB. Well done KellyAnne! Dave Crowe who wasn't feeling 100% but still had a decent run to clock 22.56. Michaela Shaw, Ian Bushrod and Kim ONeil finished seconds apart with 23.12, 23.13 and 23.15 respectively. Good running from Ian and Kim who I also believe attained their PBs so well done to them. Ian Hamilton had problems with his knee and finished with 23.38. Barry Allman finished with 24.19 and just managed to outrun Louise Dobson who had a good run to post her PB with 24.25. Well done Louise. Brenda Wane thought I was pulling her leg when I handed her the prize for the second FV50 and she finished with 26.02. And completing the A&T line up was Cath Hodgetts who has turned out to support the club in every CLGP race this season finished with 28.47. Also thanks for the support out on the course and Mark Lysycia for the photos

The 6th race in the CLGP calendar is to be hosted by Chorley Harriers with the Chorley 4.4 mile trail race on the evening of Wednesday 1st August. Hope to see you all there.

Hendersons End Fell Race

Hendersons End fell race
9.4km / 5.8m
300m / 984ft

June 7th was the 3rd race in A&T club champs, hosted by Lostock..was looking to be another very wet and windy race.
Myself and Louise Dobson, braved the weather, cheered on by Marjorie Leigh and my daughter, support that was truely needed and most grateful for.
Starting at the barn we set off on a slight incline to the first of 3 climbs towards the pigeon tower, turning left onto the old road which was more like wading through a river than running on a path, we then headed up Noon Hill our 2nd climb of the race towards the mast on Winter Hill,  normally we would run to the cairn but due to the wet conditions we was diverted onto the road, upto this point me and Louise was playing a bit of tag with each other, just past the mast we take a right turn onto level boggy ground following a wall before heading of towards the Two Lads, where we hit our first downhill of the race (finally), I manage to get a bit of time on Louise at this point, after ascending to Pike cottage, making our way to the last climb of the race up to the Pike, by this time my legs were feeling tired and it was a slow climb upto the pike, before the nice last down hill back to the Pigeon tower and down to the finish at the barn.  I came in at 01.06.37 and Louise came in at 01.11.20. I think once Louise gets used to the downhills and some proper fell shoes, she will be flying. Well done Louise this was a very wet and windy race, you did brill x

TRIumphant Weekend! :)

A fantastic weekend for A&T at various tri events!

Alex and Colin took on Capesthorne Sprint Tri (750m/26k/5k). Alex won the event for the 2nd year running with a fantastic time of 1.15.30. Colin came in not far behind in 8th place with a time of 1.27.11 and took first place for his age group.

Meanwhile, Helen Minshull, also at Capesthorne, took part in her first Olympic Tri event (1500m/39k/10k) and finished in 3.14 taking first place in her age group. Well done Helen!

Over in Wales, Jon Hyde, Mike Reason and Terry Hughes were competing in the Bala Middle Distance, Half Ironman event with a grueling 2k swim, 76.5k bike and 20k run. Mike came in with a cracking time of 4.38 with Terry coming in strongly behind at 5.08 and Jon just behind with 5.13. Brilliant results from everyone there, looks like all the hardcore weekend training had paid off! Mike and Terry just need to double this on 22nd July!!

Closer to home Paul Jackson and Craig braved the murky sea waters of Blackpool in a 1 mile swim event but once again (at least for Craig) were called in from the water mid event due to strong winds and tides making it unsafe. Apparently Paul and Craig were both gutted that the race was cancelled midway but were cheered up by a ride on a jet ski through a family of seals back to the shore!

Well done everyone involved, you've done A&T proud this weekend!

Three Sisters 5k

This coming Wednesday 13th June at 7.30pm is the 5th race in this years CLGP calendar being the Three Sisters 5k. The Three Sisters 5k is a new addition to the CLGP calendar hosted by Wigan Phoenix. As well as counting towards the clubs and individuals CLGP placings this race also counts towards the A&T club championships.

Swinton\Burnden Interclub Challenge Results

Sorry for the delay in getting the results out for the relay challenge last week. The results co-ordinator at Swinton had a family emergency and had to visit his seriously ill relative in hospital in London from the end of last week to Tuesday of this week.

There were a few minor problems matching up the individual times on the last leg runners, when trying to issue the results.
The time keepers had difficulty recording the times and numbers with so many people being in the finishing area, plus they think each club had at least one runner running twice which may have added to the difficulties. Whether some of the individual times are slightly out or not, the team results are said to be correct to those recorded positions as the runners came in.
If you don't agree with the individual times or team orders please let me know.
Below are the team results and the provisional individual results of all the teams.
