Salford 10k
On Good Friday 10 A&T athletes made the short trip for the fast flat 2 lap course that is the Salford 10k. The morning was
overcast with more than a chill in the air. It was almost perfect
conditions for racing and the A&T athletes that turned out took full
advantage with some exceptional running. Paul Mannion was
first back for A&T with, by his own words, a satisfactory 34.36!
Steve Coleman just gets better with age and posted yet another PB with
37.18. He even managed a wave on the run in when most mere mortals would
be on the floor! Not far behind Steve came Gary Stevens having a good
race to post his 2nd fastest 10k time with 37.45. Chris Scholes fresh
from marathon training had an outstanding race to post a time of 43.20 and getting
his PB in the process. Ian "Bacon Mon" Hamilton ran in next with 45.25
and just managed to hold off the attentions of an improving Garry Baines
who finished with 45.35. Next home was our first lady Susan Fletcher
who also had a good run to post 46.32. Michael Geoghehan followed Susan
closely in and I believe dipped under 47 minutes for the first time with
46.54. Ian Bushrod, who appears to be coming on leaps and bounds, ran
another very good race attaining his PB with 47.44. And closing out out
the A&T line up was Louise Hampton who ran the latter stages with a
leg problem but finished with 51.38. I hope it's nothing serious and
Louise is back on the racing circuit soon. Everyone for their troubles
received a customary drinks coaster. This is a definite one to pencil in for the racing calendar next year.
