Ian Hesekth Duathlon - by Gary Stevens

Today 3 A&T members (Jon Hyde, Barry Allman and myself) made the short journey to Horwich to compete in the Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon which was a 5k run / 22k bike / 5k run.
I did this event in 2010 in wet conditions and i thought there is no way this could happen again - i was wrong.  As i travelled to Horwich it was chucking it down and to rub it in there was a strong gusty wind, not ideal!
On arrival i spotted Jon who got there nice and early, we both racked our bikes and discussed tactics before going for our warm up.

As 10am loomed to weather improved and off we went...I started off at a steady (ish) pace with Jon just tucked at the back and we gently began to pick runners off one by one as we made our way past the lower barn and onto the trails. Jon was strong and i was working hard just to keep with him eventually i had to let him go and we both hit T1 with fast times .. Jon 17.57 (11th) and me 18.11 (16th) .. Bianca time!

As i made my way up the hill to the bike mount point Jon had already gone and was looking good, after lap 1 of 3 i was starting to close the gap, eventually at the end of lap 2 i pulled level with Jon.  We both exchanged words "how you feeling Jon"? "ok, its not hit me yet" .. i tried to pull away but Jon stayed on my tail, we both worked hard on the final lap and took a few bikers on the hill, i managed to get into T2 just in front.
Bike 22k Gary 42.20 and Jon 42.38

In T2 you could hear the groans of pain as bikers started to cramp up taking off their shoes, if you have never tried it believe me its a skill which is not easily mastered, shoes off trainers on and off we went on the final run both together at this point.  There is approx 400 mtr uphill section to start the run which is not what you need on jelly legs, Jon passed me after a couple of minutes and looked super strong, and then started to pull away. By this point i was hanging on hoping to keep my position.  I managed to hold my place until around 200 mtrs to go when i was passed by some fella sprinting 'ggrrrhhh i thought' but then luckily for me he stopped to be sick so i then got my place and back and crossed the line feeling a little spaced out.  Jon came over and we exchanged a respectful hug and then my daughter came over crying because she thought i was going to collapse!!
Run : Jon 19.48 Gary 20.33

Great race and a real challenging course on a tough day but very enjoyable.  We eagerly awaited the results and when they finally arrived Jon had finished 10th and i was 15th, 3 minutes improvement on 2010.

Barry Allman won the vets 55 prize taking home a A-Z !! well done Bazza!
Final Results Jon 10th 1.19.48, Gary 15th 1.21.04, Barry 60th 1.44.34

Dunham Massey 5k by Paul Basnett

On Friday evening 4 A&T athletes and myself made their way up to Dunham Massey for the first race of the 9th North Cheshire 5km Grand Prix series. With ample parking and idyllic surroundings, including the odd roaming deer along with droppings, this made for an ideal setting for a race. Having grabbed my race series number, done a warm up and fiddled with my new heart rate monitor I did the customary good luck handshakes with the rest of the A&T team.

The race was off and as I'd decided to start fairly near the front the first 1/2k people were streaming past me, or so it felt, as I settled down into my pace. The course itself was 2 1/2 loops of a fairly flat triangular course which was made up of park paths and the mid section being a sparsely grassed trail. The ground underfoot on the mid section could cut up if there was plenty of rain but as luck would have it on this day it was very firm and very much runable. After about 1/2k I settled in behind a woman, not like me, who was running at very much the same pace as me but she was already panting with exersion. The first loop went by fairly quickly and I was still feeling pretty strong and still just behind the same woman. With one loop left I began to tire but the grassy mid section rolls gently downhill which help kick my pace back up and I still could not shake off the panting woman, or was it her not being able to shake off me!? At this point we were still slowly passing people and it was not long before we turned in for the 1/2 mile home straight which is where I was willing for the line to appear in front of me and I too started to pant quite heavily as it was hurting! I then could see the finish line ahead and tried to pick up more speed to cross the line pretty much neck and neck with the woman I had raced almost the entire course with. She must have got it in the photo finish as we both finished with the same time of 22.16 but she got the nod ahead of me in the places .However I was pleased with my run and could barely believe my eyes when I looked at my watch as this was 39 seconds off my previous 5k best, though my heart rate monitor didn't work so it could be true that I don't have one!

In a strong field of 230 runners where the winner Mike Hatch of Sale Harriers posted a time of 15.56, Scott Christey was first back for A&T finishing 34th with 17.46. He was followed closely by Alan Hilton (43rd) with 18.12. Then came one of A&Ts newest recruits Colin Kay in 18.49 (58th) who said will soon be competing in the V55 category, well done Colin A few minutes later I crossed the line with aforementioned 22.16 and then came our only female competitor of the day Bev Tickle with 28.44. A special mention goes to Barry Allman who ran 24.10 for his first claim club Spectrum Striders for suggesting and entering me for the 5k series, so cheers Barry

After the race I did a 1.5 mile cool down run with Scott and Colin along with some post race analysis. They too mentioned the gentle rolling down mid section of the final lap as the place that kicked their pace back up after feeling a bit of a lull. A&T may make a runner out of me yet!

I would recommend this race to anyone as it's well orgainsed and it's great for anyone looking to obtain a PB. There is another 5k race in the series at this venue on Friday 17th June for anyone who is interested.

Whirlwind Performaces at St Annes - by John Lee

6 weeks ago after a 'few' beers i was talked into entering my 2nd triathlon ever.  I joined forces with the ever increasing A&T Tri Team to take on the best in the North West in race 2 of the 3 race 'Fylde Trilogy TriathlonSeries", the first being Ribby Hall in which Alex Foster and Clare Unsworth set the standard for everyone else to follow.

Colin Rigby, Helen Minshall, Jon Hyde and Dale Kenyon who i hope will soon join the club joined myself on the entry list.

We met at Atherton Train Station at 7.15am before making the trip along the motorway to St.Annes where we parked up and walked the 15 minute walk to registration to get our numbers before returning back to the transition point to get our much loved bikes racked.

It was clear by this point that the 50mph gusty winds forecast where going to make both the bike and the run very tough, but being A&T it didn't put us off and we all made our way to the swimming pool for the start.

Clare and Colin went off first followed by Dale and John, then Helen, then myself and lastly Alex.

The first transition from swim to bike went very smoothly, shoes clipped into pedals and i was off with Moran shouting "come on Mainwering show them what you are made of".  I turned onto the coast road to begin the 12 mile (2 x 6 mile loop) in the blustery conditions.  On my 2nd loop i could see Clare fighting the wind and i shouted at her to keep going with the A&T spirit.  I then saw Alex on my return to transition and we both shouted 'keep digging in'.

Bike done..shoes off...trainers on and i pushed on for the final leg on the event which was the 5k run.  During the run i passed Helen and told her to "dig in" on getting on the course road and Shaun was there again giving his words of encouragement.  I tried to relax for the first half of the run knowing i was going to be hitting the wind on the second half, by this point i saw Alex on his final loop of the bike and we shouted "all the way all the way".  I pushed on in the strong winds and finally crossed the line to be greeted by Clare, Jon, Dale and Colin who had already finished and we all then waited for Alex who finished very strongly.

I was really happy with my performance but had to wait 48 hours for the official results which showed i finished 10th overall and 4th in my age group just behind Alex who finish 9th, another strong performance mate!
Colin Rigby finished 25th overall which give us the first team place..well done Colin.
Followed by Jon Hyde 45th, Clare 210th and Helen 213th.

I'd like to give a special mention to Jon Hyde, Dale Kenyon and Helen Minshall who completed their first triathlons in such bad conditions and look forward to doing it all again at Fleetwood on September 25th.

I'd also like to give a big thanks personally to Sandra, Shaun, Brenda, Anita, Neil, Mr and Mrs Foster and family for turning up and supporting which was very much appreciated by all the athletes.

Edinburgh Marathon by Michelle Fuller

On Friday me and Jim headed off to Edinburgh for a bit of site seeing and to run the marathon on Sunday..weather forecast, wind and rain to look forward to.
Saturday night decided to get an early night, which soon ended up being a late night due to a disco in the function room at the hotel till midnight.
Woke up bright and early on Sunday morning feeling very nervous, had my bowl of porridge and smothered my legs in deep heat. Headed off to the race nice and early to off load our bags. The weather forecast was true to its word, very windy and showers.
Race started at 10am, nice downhill to start heading towards the coast, we kept our pace at 9 min miles for the first 20mile which I was really pleased with. For the next 3 miles our pace was a little slower as we started heading into the wind which really started to sap the energy from us, mile 23 we stopped to walk twice for a few minutes, worse thing we could have done, it was a struggle to get going again. The last mile finally, lots of people cheering us on, got us moving again..finally the finish line was in sight, I could feel myself getting all emotional and found it really difficult to hold back the tears, not sure whether they were tears of joy or pain. Finish 4 hrs 24 mins and 57 secs, 1 sec faster that Jim.

Blue Light 5 Mile‏ by Paul Basnett

On Sunday myself and Pops (aka Barry "Ozzy" Allman) made our way upto Blackpool for the Blue Light 5 mile run. I text Barry the night before to ensure that we were still on for the race and I said that we would not get lost as I had SatNav on my phone. We set off giving us plenty of time to get there and switched the annoying SatNav volume down until we got closer to our destination. Anyway through chatting, as Barry does, we ended up going further into Blackpool than we should have done before we thought it might be a good idea to turn the SatNav up! The SatNav then started to give us directions to our destination some of which did not make a whole lot of sense to either of us. It was then we spotted a yellow sign at the side of the road that stated something along the lines of don't rely on SatNav around here! Two minutes later we was in the middle of a housing estate and surely not on our way to our destination. It was from here we thought it might be more prudent to look at the map as well as listening to directions as she kept saying quick left, right, left then left which confused us, obviously.

Anyway having reached our destination with about 30 minutes to spare we went and signed up for the race. Quite a few of the runners had decided to run in fancy dress as it was a charity race in aid of the Glynn Square Memorial Fund. The weather, as I'm sure the brave people who took part in the Lytham Tri will vouch for, was cold, wet and very, very windy! I wasn't relishing stripping down to my shorts and vest but Barry had other plans he was going to run as Ozzy Osbourne!

The race itself was a 5 mile loop on Blackpool promenade with the first 1.5 miles into the wind and side on rain and hail. This was then followed by the 2.5 miles on the flat lower promenade with the wind slightly behind us and sheltered somewhat from the elements. However the last mile was into the wind, which took your breath away and again with rain and hail beating the side of your face. At times I'm sure I was running backwards on this part. I dug in and tried to catch the woman in front, Kath Hoyer from Wesham, who had an interesting outfit on shall we say! I thought if I can get within ass slapping distance of her then that will do, as she as been kicking my ass by at least a minute or two in recent races. Luckily for her and perhaps my face I failed in my quest by 7 seconds but I did attain a PB and both myself and Barry got a rather nice glass Blue Light 5 running momento for taking part. We then finished off with tea, coffee, cream cakes and banter before making our way back down the motorway for home.

My first triathlon by Helen Minshall

Hi A&T members

I am so chuffed today as I completed my very first triathlon! I’ve wanted to do one for a long time, and I decided at New Year that 2011 would be the year to go for it. Although I run at least 4 miles and swim a mile every day, it’s a long time since I did my last competitive swim in 1980! I’ve never really done much cycling before until I got my first road bike last summer, and I enjoyed the club duathlon which I came 3rd in last winter.  I didn’t really follow a proper structured training plan for today’s tri – just fitted in what I could when I could. So off I went this morning to join Claire Unsworth and 4 other A&T members on St Anne’s sea front in a howling gale! Claire was really helpful with advising me on what to wear, and how to set my gear up in transition to save time etc. It was great to see Brenda and some of the other A&T members cheering us all on. I enjoyed the swim, and surprisingly didn’t notice the cold as I ran through the rain to get on my bike. The bike ride was really tough, and several times I thought I was going to lose control of the bike. A woman in front of me landed in the road at one of the turning points! After the bike ride I found the run much easier than expected, and the sun even tried to come out a couple of times. I was so happy when I crossed the finish line, and everyone from the club was very encouraging. I can’t wait for my next tri! I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to “tri something different”

Great Manchester Games by Mike Reason

Good day out in Manchester!!

After two failed attempts at my first sub 40 10k at Pennington and Salford I managed to get under in Manchester with 39:46.  Then jogged from the finish of the run to my car to travel to Salford for the Great Salford Swim.  Started off in the fast wave and was under a bit of pressure as the organisers announced that anyone not reaching halfway in 15 mins would be dragged out to make way for the elites.  Finished the swim knackered in 27:30.

Chester Marathon by Andy Coates

What are you doing on October 9th at 9am?
I was supposed to be doing Chester Marathon but now find I can't and would like to offer my number to another A&T member. With 5 months left to go there is still time to train through the summer months and join the other 20+ A&T runners who are doing this race. It should be a really good day and near enough to not need to spend a fortune on travel and accommodation.
The race costs £38 for an affiliated runner. I am happy to let the number go for free but would be even happier if whoever took it made a donation to Malc's Brathay Trust charity at http://www.justgiving.com/Malcolm-Collins
Interested? e-mail me on andrew@lifeopportunities.co.uk or ring me on 07973 633 029
Thanks, Andrew Coates

Race Report – Haigh Hall 4 by Garry Baines

Race Report – Haigh Hall 4
34 dedicated A&T members made the short journey to Haigh Hall last night and produced some outstanding performances in the Haigh Hall 4 mile race. The course includes the slowest and fastest mile on the road running circuit in this area.
First home for the club and showing some return to form was Simon Ford with 22:39, just managing to hold off the ever-improving superman, Alex Foster who clocked 22:54 for 2nd A&T finisher. Pete Chan was 3rd “blue vest” home with 23:24. Scott Christey’s return to CLGP racing proved successful and he held off Mark Riches in a close tussle, recording 23:59 and 24:02 respectively. Next came Gary Stevens with 24:45, just in front of Jon Hyde with 24:48 and Kevin Edwards 24:49. Steve Coleman is in good form and crossed the line in 25:12, whilst John Lee made his way steadily through the field for 25:35. Colin Kay made his CLGP debut for the club at 54 years young, and posted a superb 25:38 in a strong V50 category. Next came Josie Maley with 26:03 and she finished 4th lady overall and 1st A&T-er, having put everything into the last mile.
Rob Chan enjoyed a close duel with family friend, Jean Mann, and youth proved a decisive factor in the end as Rob clocked 27:05, Jean 10m seconds behind as 2nd A&T lady.
Mark Lysycia ran strongly for his 27:31 and Anthony Hart produced his best run for the club, recording 28:13 and just pipping Steve Foster with 28:28. Ray Taylor finished well with 29:09 whilst Rufus Bennett somehow got way-laid on the course and eventually found his way back for 29:13.
Wayne Babynec 29:25 and Ian Hamilton 29:26 could hardly be parted at the finish line, whilst Carole Baines, in her first race since November, produced a good PB with 29:58 and finished as 3rd A&T Lady. Mark Crowley as always ground out a good time of 30:22 and Suzanne Gregory pushed him all the way for 30:23.
Paul Basnett put in a lung-bursting last mile with 30:44 and it was good to see Dave Crowe back after illness with 31:48. Cliff Stanley finished well for 32:25.
Perhaps the two runs of the day go to the next 2 ladies. Marjorie Leigh and Laura Babynec were neck and neck over the last mile, with the lead changing hands on a couple of occasions. Marjorie’s experience told in this instance as she finished with 32:30 and duly took home the Ladies V60 prize. Laura was 1 second behind and her London Marathon experience has given her a lot of confidence and with some more intensive training, we are going to see her improve quickly.
Vanessa Thomson was next, producing her now legendary sprint finish for 33:31 whilst Barry Allman simply enjoyed the scenery and strolled round in 34:52.
This was the first CLGP experience for twins Emma and Danielle Gibbon and both will benefit from it. Emma posted a time of 36:20, whilst Danielle stuck to the task for 39:34. Clare Unsworth, as enthusiastic as ever, made it home in 41:36 and improved on her position in the field compared to previous years.
Well done everyone on a really fine club performance.

See you Saturday!

Leeds Half Marathon by Paul Basnett

On Sunday I travelled, or tried to travel up the M62 to take my place in the Leeds half marathon.
The race started at 9.30 so I thought setting out for the journey at 7.45 would give me ample time, how wrong was I!
I got part way up the motorway when I saw signs for motorway closed from junction 25-26 to which I thought ok no problem I have a bit of extra time and it is Sunday so traffic should be light. Wrong again!
As I approach junction 25 at about 8.30 I come to a standstill to which I say, well shout "Arrrrggghhhhh you've got to be %£^*ng kidding me!" Not that I talk to myself much you understand but this was unusual circumstances, honest!
Anyway thankfully the crawling traffic was to get through the first set of lights about 1/2 mile further down the road but this did mean I ended up parking up in Leeds at 9.15 and not knowing exactly where the start was!
Coming out of the car park I followed the noise and as luck would have it I was parked about 300 metres from the start so 5 minutes from the gun I took my position near the back of the field.
This was a complete contrast to the Liverpool half marathon were I started pretty much at the front but at this stage I was just glad to have arrived before all the 3600 runners left without me!

The first mile or 2 mainly involved dodging runners and using strategically placed elbows. Well in fact that was the strategy for most of the race as it got rather narrow in parts and some of the roads were not closed. At around 2 miles we hit the first proper hill and what a hill it was, a relentless 90m climb over the next 2 mile! You'd round a corner hoping for a glimpse of the summit only to see more hill for as far as the eye could see and hear the groans around you as they said aloud what I was thinking inside! However, unbeknown to her, a brunette with lovely legs and bum helped me up this part as it took my eye off the hill which is always a good strategy I find. Anyway having conquered the first proper hill relatively unscathed and still feeling pretty good, under the circumstances, we had a 60m drop for the next mile and a half before hitting a 50 m climb for the subsequent next mile and a half. From there on in it was an undulating drop into Leeds centre. At around 8 mile I vaguely recollect hearing my name being cheered on, which turned out to be for me, as my friend Angela and some of her relay team shouted encouragement. She said I looked like I needed the encouragement as my face looked as if I was in enourmous amounts of pain and that's perhaps because at this stage my legs were starting to feel the strain! At around 10.5 mile the legs did indeed tell me to stop as they needed a stretch and from there on in I limped home going between jogging and walking to cross the line in a mildly disappointing 1.53.30

For my trouble I got a goody bag which really only had a tshirt and a medal to speak of. However I did like the finish area were once you had finished there was plenty of room to breath and get out of the finish area whereas Liverpool had been congested with very little room to move, which is what I hate at the end of a race! This race did teach me some new and old things being check traffic news before setting off, never set off at the back of the field and perhaps more importantly that I need to do some long runs with some tough hills thrown in as I've never done this distance before with tough hills like that. However looking at the results Steve Coleman had a belter clocking 1.29.59, and he'd probably say that this is nowhere near the toughest half marathon he as done! For my part I hope to be back next year to conquer the hills and run in with a better time.

Bolton Legacy 5k by Gary Stevens

After my Salford 10k nightmare a couple of weeks ago i wanted to get in the first 5k or 10k around to put that bad race to bed so i decided to enter this new event "One Bolton 5k Legacy" at the Reebok Stadium.

The event had a mixture of abilities from club runners, recreational runners and joggers and attracted a start list of over 400 runners although around 100 pre-entries never turned up!

A couple of part time footballers who you might know started the race named Kevin Davies and Jussi Jaaskelainen who i believe are both star players for this park team who play at the stadium!

The gun went off and with all these type of events 50 runners who think they can sprint all the way round only to be jogging after 400 mtrs made it a bizarre start with pre-race favorite Anthony Valentine 3rd on the first corner being lead by two lads wearing jogging bottoms!

As we hit the 1k marker i was passing runners at will going from 40 something to 10th in no time.  The next 3k's where in a area known as Red Moss Nature Reserve which was very wet trails and a few puddles from the previous nights heavy rain, there was also quite a gusty wind making conditions a bit slower although quite flat.

I came out of the reserve at 4k 6th overall and tried to make up a gap to 5th however the finish line loomed and 6th it was in a time of 18 mins 37 from 301 finishers.

Overall a really well organized event and one that i think will grow year by year.

On a top weekend for the club i'd like to say well done on Troy's 4th at the Blacksticks 10k, Alex Fosters 5th at Belmont and Colin Rigbys debut performance in the Wilmslow Triathlon.

Keswick Half Marathon by Steve Coleman

Last Sunday I did the hot, windy and full of hills half marathon run in Keswick. Did 1h 33m 40s which was not as fast as last years run. Nearly missed the start as it is a distance from the registration. Got there just in time, my defence is that they started one minute early!!

Malcolm's Challenge to run 10 marathons in 10 days

Malcolm's Challenge to run 10 marathons in 10 days
Brathay Trust 10 in 10  on 13/05/2011

In 2007 I entered the newly resurrected Windermere marathon. I really fancied the idea of running round England’s largest lake as I had already run round Coniston many times before and as both me and Yuk-Lam love the Lake District. Amongst us marathon runners I became aware there were a hand full of extraordinary runners. They were actually running the marathon course for the 10th time in as many days! I couldn’t believe it was even humanly possible. I had immense respect for their achievement and thought they must be almost super human. I went away from Windermere that weekend with the seed planted in my mind.
“Be Inspired” say the Brathay Trust and I think that day I was.
Over the following years I found out that the Windermere marathon was run by the Brathay Trust a charity that helps and supports disadvantaged young people.
They have accepted me to take on their 10 marathons in 10 days challenge for 2011. It runs from Friday 13th May till Sunday 22nd May.
I'm hoping to complete this challenge of a life time and raise the most money I've ever raised for a charity, both at the same time.
The Brathay Trust works with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. It helps them develop the skills, confidence and motivation to make positive choices in their lives.
Their vision is of a society where all children and young people have access to formal and informal education to enable them to fulfil their potential. Brathay's objective is to be the national charity that empowers Young People to make a positive contribution to society.
Follow me on my journey preparing for this challenge and during it through my blog www.malcsblog.net

Please help me raise money for Brathay by sponsoring me.

So please dig deep and donate now.

10 Yr Anniversary Do

If any members wish to bring their kids to the 10 Yr Anniversary Do on Saturday 14th May then that is fine by the club committee, just beware that there is no specific kids entertainment on the night.

I know a few members have been struggling to get babysitters for the night.

Anniversary Waltz Fell Race- 11.5m/3600’

On Sat 23rd April, St. Georges Day, Me Mark and Lyndsey went to Newlands in the Lake District for the Anniversary Waltz Fell Race. The days leading up to the event were very hot, so we were grateful for some cooler weather on the day.
The race starts with a brutal ascent of Robinson before a run over the tops of Hindscarth, Dale Head, High Spy, Maiden Moor and finally Catbells from where you have a steep grassy descent back to the finish at Stair.
Mark had a great run coming in 26th place with a time of 1:56:38, me next with a time of 2:18:41, a minute off last year’s time, but run of the day went again to Lyndsey who, in her first Lakeland event finished strongly in 2:54:27, despite getting into difficulty in the mist at the summit of Robinson. 319 finishers.

Three Peaks Fell Race- 23.3m/5280’
On Saturday 30th April, we went to Horton-in-Ribblesdale for the classic Yorkshire 3 Peaks Fell Race. Described as a ‘marathon with mountains’, the race takes in 23.3 miles of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, with ascents to the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
This was our first attempt at this race and we both found it very tough but thoroughly enjoyable. It was a hot sunny day, but the wind was blowing strong, especially on the high ground.
The support along the route was fantastic from walkers, locals and other club supporters. We were assisted by Lyndsey who stopped off at road points to give a welcome drink, even though we later found out she’d blagged off someone else.
At the finish a warm reception welcomed us, and is was off to the burger van for our free food and to spend some time in the marquee, relaxing and chatting to other runners.
A brillliant day out.

Wrexham 10 miles 30/04/11 – by Mark Riches

Coach Moran was keen to get a few A&T runners in this race as he felt that we could challenge for team honours. In the end 6 A&T runners arrived in Wrexham one hour before the start on a very hot & windy afternoon
After collecting our numbers & doing a short warm-up we set off to the start; it was strange to be amongst what were predominantly Welsh Clubs (it was also the North Wales Champs)
The hooter sounded & we were off for 2 x 5 miles loops around Wrexham Industrial Estate. Shaun Moran soon disappeared into the distance & yours truly (Mark Riches) settled into a group of 2 other men & one lady. We ran the first 4 miles together then the lady pulled out & one of the men dropped off the pace. So for the last 5 miles I battled with this guy from Prestatyn Running Club. At the 8 mile marker I decided to push on & thought I had got the better of him only for him to pull alongside me at the 9 mile marker! He was just too strong for me & he eventually beat me by about 50 meters
Shaun had another great run & was first A&T finisher (& was rewarded with 1st V50 prize.) I was next A&T finisher followed by Gary Stevens, who rarely runs 10 miles even in training, so did really well to finish 3rd A&T runner
John Lee was next A&T runner, despite not being allowed to wear his ‘motivational tunes’ for safety reasons. Terry Hughes completed the line up as unfortunately, Paul Basnett pulled out after 5 miles due to the heat – see below

After a brief & painful warm down we parked ourselves on one of the wooden tables outside the clubhouse & waited for the results - Had we done enough to win a team prize?
The photo above answers the question – we finished 2nd male team (Shaun me Gary & John) Wrexham were 1st team & 2nd male vets team (Shaun me & John)
Prestatyn won the male vets team but only on count back as we had the same points – if only i could have found a little more in the last mile!
Results were not available at the time of writing but should appear on http://wrexhamroadrunners.org.uk/
