My First Marathon. Coniston trail marathon by Tracy Parry
My first marathon had a 7am Sunday morning start so a very early alarm call was required. I expected a challenging course and was not disappointed, but had not anticipated the heat and clear blue skies. The first 10k climb to Tarn Hows was spectacular only to be surpassed by the loop round Tarn Hows. The run through Grizedale Forest was alot of fun and provided more gradient than the course profile suggested. There were some tricky downhill sections, with my growing experience in the fell runs giving me some help. The river crossing was a welcome relief before the final steep ups and downs to get us to Coniston lake. My unofficial time was 5hours and 43 minutes, despite completing the first 20miles in 4 hours. Although I faded towards the end, the weather conditions were exceptional and it was my first experience of running beyond 20miles so alot of positives were taken. This was an excellent event, in beautiful surroundings. The marshalls were superb and the water stations welcoming. I have had an amazing experience for my first marathon and will definitely enter this next year.
