Bull Hill Fell Race by Andrew Coates

Last night saw the running of the Bull Hill Fell Race from the Wagon & Horses pub in Hawkshaw near Bury. This race forms part of the Radcliffe Athletic Club 3 day challenge which includes a XC race tonight and a trail race on Saturday (http://www.radcliffeac.org.uk/ / http://www.radcliffeac.org.uk/forms11/3dentry.pdf).
There was a good turnout of A&T runners for this the 7th race in the A&T Fell championship. My own fitness level were tested severely on this event with every one of those missed training sessions of the last two years being felt with every step! The rest of team A&T (Mark Ruscoe, Simon Ford, Marcus Taylor, David Ruscoe, John Foulds, Tracy Parry) really showed how Fell Racing should be done with all producing great performances.
The Race was tough with lots of hilly terrain but whilst being completely banjaxed at the end, I was left with a strangely satisfied feeling which is to be recommended.
Being very close to a virgin on the fells I am pleased to say that the guys from the Fell Section at A&T really, really made me feel welcome. I would really recommend more A&T members having a go at a Fell Race or two, you will be made very welcome and it really is good to run something a bit different....oh and the views are amazing.
Why not make a note in your diary? The next date in the A&T Fell calendar is August 3rd at Hailstorm Hill, Bacup, 6.5 miles and FREE to enter, now there's a bargain!
