Morecambe 10k by Carole Baines
Well it may be ladies day at Ascot this week but at the Morecambe 10k it was A&T ladies day. A total of eight ladies raced & between them bagged 2nd,3rd, !st vet 45 & a handful of P.B’s as well as the ladies team prize.
1st lady home was Josie who earned a well-deserved 2nd place closely followed in by Jean who was 3rd lady overall & who had ‘the race of the day’ according to our wise old man of racing, Pete Chan. Next in was yours truly(nearly 5 minutes behind Jean though) but doing enough to land us the team prize, plus v45 prize- thanks Jean! I was closely followed in by Suzanne who got a P.B. even though she ‘hated every minute.’ Vanessa running very strongly dipped under 50 minutes with Laura knocking a massive one and a half minutes off her P.B. Helen was another one really pleased with her time of 55 mins 19 seconds –also a P.B. Claire as always finished with a smile and was definitely pleased with her time.
As for the men, they had some great runs as usual with Pete Chan leading the way & clinching the V45 prize. Shaun was next in also winning his category. They were followed in by Scott, Mark Riches Jon Hyde and Rufus all finishing under the 40 minute mark. Robin Chan finished next very nearly bagging a ladies prize as he was listed as female. Better luck next time Robin! Mark Lysycia was next in later heard bemoaning his P.W. time.( Personal Worst – don’t know whether I believe you Mark!) Nasser came storming in next after just getting the better of Ian at about the 5 mile mark. Ian finished his last 100 metres like a speeding train after stopping with less than 300 metres to go. It just goes to show that you can’t keep an old dog down. Mark (Rocky) Crowley was in next then Paul (‘I race at least once a week’) Basnett & Dave Crowe all dipping under 50 minutes. Ray had a tough time after pulling his hamstring in the first mile but managed to finish in 51 minutes. Barry came in smiling as usual to complete the A&T lineup.
The weather was very kind with the expected rainstorms only starting as we made our way back down the M6. I think we all agreed it was a good race and a great day.
