Hi A&T members
I am so chuffed today as I completed my very first triathlon! I’ve wanted to do one for a long time, and I decided at New Year that 2011 would be the year to go for it. Although I run at least 4 miles and swim a mile every day, it’s a long time since I did my last competitive swim in 1980! I’ve never really done much cycling before until I got my first road bike last summer, and I enjoyed the club duathlon which I came 3rd in last winter. I didn’t really follow a proper structured training plan for today’s tri – just fitted in what I could when I could. So off I went this morning to join Claire Unsworth and 4 other A&T members on St Anne’s sea front in a howling gale! Claire was really helpful with advising me on what to wear, and how to set my gear up in transition to save time etc. It was great to see Brenda and some of the other A&T members cheering us all on. I enjoyed the swim, and surprisingly didn’t notice the cold as I ran through the rain to get on my bike. The bike ride was really tough, and several times I thought I was going to lose control of the bike. A woman in front of me landed in the road at one of the turning points! After the bike ride I found the run much easier than expected, and the sun even tried to come out a couple of times. I was so happy when I crossed the finish line, and everyone from the club was very encouraging. I can’t wait for my next tri! I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to “tri something different”
