Edinburgh Marathon by Michelle Fuller

On Friday me and Jim headed off to Edinburgh for a bit of site seeing and to run the marathon on Sunday..weather forecast, wind and rain to look forward to.
Saturday night decided to get an early night, which soon ended up being a late night due to a disco in the function room at the hotel till midnight.
Woke up bright and early on Sunday morning feeling very nervous, had my bowl of porridge and smothered my legs in deep heat. Headed off to the race nice and early to off load our bags. The weather forecast was true to its word, very windy and showers.
Race started at 10am, nice downhill to start heading towards the coast, we kept our pace at 9 min miles for the first 20mile which I was really pleased with. For the next 3 miles our pace was a little slower as we started heading into the wind which really started to sap the energy from us, mile 23 we stopped to walk twice for a few minutes, worse thing we could have done, it was a struggle to get going again. The last mile finally, lots of people cheering us on, got us moving again..finally the finish line was in sight, I could feel myself getting all emotional and found it really difficult to hold back the tears, not sure whether they were tears of joy or pain. Finish 4 hrs 24 mins and 57 secs, 1 sec faster that Jim.
