Radcliffe 10K Sunday 3rd April 2011 – by Mark Riches

Despite the lure of the local 10K / half marathon on offer at Leigh Sports Village, 21 A&T runners turned out at Radcliffe
After collecting our numbers & doing a short warm-up around the local park we set off to the start, which we were warned was 10 minutes away.
The hooter sounded & we were off with the other 230+ runners. The course was described as “challenging” on the entry form but I am not sure that did it justice! We ran on the trail, roads & paths of Ringley then after a stretch along the canal we encountered the “sting in the tail” – a very steep cobbled path just before the finish; just what you need with 5 miles in your legs!
As always, Peter Chan or Caan as he appears on the results led home the A&T runners finishing in 9th place overall. Next it was Simon Ford (17th) on his way back after missing a couple of weeks training. Yours truly, Mark Riches, finished next (26th) after a 3 way battle with the 2 Garys Cassidy (28th male performance of the day) & Stevens (33rd) Maria Lowe was next (3rd lady) he last race before tackling the VLM. Prolific racer Steve Coleman was next & we had to stop him going round again (6 miles is just not far enough for our Steve who is off to Scotland next week end to tackle yet another marathon) Robin Chan & Greg Ruscoe battled it out just behind Steve with Robin just edging it
Josie Maley & Jean Mann were the next 2 A&T finishers which meant that A&T won the ladies team – well done Maria, Josie & Jean
Marcus Taylor was next with another good run then Craig Bradbury who was followed home by Ian Hamilton, Wayne Babynec, Mark Crowley & David Crowe. Then it was Nasser Isman-Egal just getting the better of Paul Basnett with Marjorie Leigh (female performance of the day) & Catherine Hodgetts completing the line-up
