I set off early on Sunday morning to compete in the 16th Wrexham Half Marathon which promised to be a flat PB course, incorprating the North Wales Half Marathon Championship. The weather on the motorway was horrendous, windy and raining. I was beginning to think whose idea was this and then I remembered it was Carole's ha! We arrived rather early at 9:30am. Once Barry Allman arrived with his friends I gave him Carole's race number.
The marathon started on Wrexham Industrial Estate, 500 runners crammed together, which led to a slowish start. The course followed country lanes. It did stop raining before we set off which was a plus but the windy conditions throughout the race made it hard to run at times because you were constantly running against the wind.
At 7 miles Barry was on my shoulder and we were both encouraging each other, shouting in the wind!
I did struggle abit at 10 miles when I felt my hamstring tighten up, so I stopped, did a couple of stretches and carried on. I would recommend this half marathon - really nice scenic route and flat!
Final Results:-
Kevin Edwards - 86.58, Category Position 22
Michaela Shaw - 103.17 Category Position 15
Barry Allman - 105.43, Category Position 22
