My Great North West Half Marathon‏ by Helen Minshall

Hi A&T members and friends

I did the Great North West Half Marathon today, for the 2nd year running. I didn't get a PB - in fact I was last out of all the A&T runners (nothing unusual there). The sun was shining all the way round, and I enjoyed nearly every minute of the race. I was 20 mins slower than last year, but I ran with a painful groin injury - on Thursday I had to give up on a training run after 3 miles, so this was a real challenge. It took everything I had just to finish the course, and it was a personal triumph for me to be there at all. As someone who runs every day, I've been out of action for the best part of a month as I've tried to get the injury sorted, and it's been totally frustrating, especially as there have been other major stresses in my life recently as well. I came 1103rd out of 1140 runners which is nothing to shout about, but it's still better than the result of my last race, when I came last in the A& T Turkey Trot!!! I must thank my great running buddy, Fiona Saunders, for sticking with me while I've been out of action, and only been able to run slowly, and for listening to me moan on and on............ I'm hoping this will be the start of the climb back up to full fitness. Onwards and upwards!!!

Helen
