A&T cross-country – Barrow 30/10/10 by Mark Riches

After last week’s mix up with the numbers; this week I completely forgot to collect the all important veteran labels. Luckily one of the ladies reminded me & I secured a supply (no keeping your age a secret in the Mid Lancs League!)

If you were wondering what all the fuss was about see photo below

The ladies were first to tackle the muddy course which consisted of 2 large laps & was approx. 6K. ANO was first A&T lady finishing 36th overall & 18th veteran. Next past the line was Michaela Shaw followed by late entrant Amanda Baxendale then Michelle Fuller. All 4 ran really well & it was nice to see a reasonable turnout despite the 4 hour round trip

Next it was the turn of the men, this time 1 small & 3 large laps (approx. 10K). Simon Ford was first A&T man (again) finishing 46th out of the field of 200 runners. Troy Topping who had another good run was next followed by Coach Shaun Moran in his first XC of the season 59 seconds later. The 2 Terry’s were next Gardiner & Hughes both ran well with just over a minute separating them. Steve Foster & late entrant Barry Allman also ran well & were 6th & 7th A&T finishers respectively.

Completing the line up (as always) was Paul Basnett finishing 193rd out of 200 but at least he raced unlike yours truly! However, I am not sure he takes it as seriously as he should – see photo below. As he posed for the photo one of the Marshalls said “hurry up we want to get home for our tea”

Remember you need to keep your number (& veteran label if appropriate) for the whole season & you must wear it at the next Mid Lancs race – Witton Park 13/11/10
