Rab Mountain Marathon by Paul Jackson

Rab Mountain Marathon- 25/26 Sept
This last weekend Mark Ruscoe and I competed in this 2 day mountain running and navigation event in the N.E. Lakes.
Superb conditions with great visibility meant it was a fantastic weekend to be in the Lakes. Although both still recovering from our efforts in August we managed to better last years score to come 92nd out of 268 teams in the standard group. The area was east of Patterdale around the old Roman road High Street, High Raise and out to Harter Fell.
Day one saw us taking time to enjoy the fells until we realised we were up against the clock to get to the overnight camp within the allocated 6 hours with a climb and descent of Beda Head still to do. We managed it but took a four point penalty by being four mins over. Clear skies meant a freezing cold night but that was soon forgotton on the Sunday morning with cool, clear conditions again, and a steady run to get to the finish in under 5 hours, this time with no penalty.
All in all a cracking weekend and good training for the OMM in Dartmoor on Halloween weekend.
