Monday 28th June sees the 1st Leg of the second A&T/ Swinton Challenge Match. A&T will host this first event at Leigh Sports Village - meeting at 6.45pm for the run which will start at 7.30p.m.
This is intended to be a light-hearted, fun challenge and is designed to involve runners of all abilities in both Clubs. Swinton & A&T are similar clubs, who are attracting many members who are new to running and who have not entered races before. This will also be a good opportunity for both clubs to invite and include potential new members, who can get a feel for themselves what it’s like to be part of a club and the running fraternity.
The competition on this particular evening will be run as a 30 minute Track Paarlauf race under the following rules:-
1. Runners will be selected into teams of 3 of equal abilities.
2. The A&T teams will be picked by the A&T captain and likewise the Swinton Captain will pick the Swinton teams.
3. A Paarlauf is a team relay on a running track with 3 team members. Each team member runs 200m and ‘tags’ the next member, who then sets off for 200m and so on. So before we start the 1st team member will be on the start line and the 2nd at the 200m point. Once underway the 3rd team member will go stand on the start line (where the 1st member has just set off from) and wait for the 2nd member in their team to come round and set them off. After the 3rd team member has completed 200m he ‘tags’ the 1st team member and the sequence starts again.
We will do this continuous relay for 30 minutes and the winning team is the one covering most distance in that time.
4. At the end of 30 minutes a whistle will be blown and the runners must stop immediately. Each team will be allocated a race position number i.e. the team finishing first scores 1, the 2nd team scores 2 etc. The club with the lowest number of points wins the challenge.
5. If, for example, A&T enter 10 teams and Swinton enter 8 teams, only A&T’s best 8 scores will count.
Please let me know if you intend to take part in the event so we can gauge possible numbers.
There is no pressure on anyone to produce spectacular times. It really is a social gathering interspersed with a bit of leisurely running.
