Torremolinos Half Marathon – Sunday 7th February 2010 (Mark Lysycia)

The next Torremolinos Half Marathon has just been confirmed and will take place on Sunday 7th February 2010.

This will be the 4th time I have done this race and every year we have a number of runners from various local clubs all competing. This year we had 16 in the group and we walked away with 7 trophies! I raced unattached (only joined A&T end May).

I’m hoping that some of you would like to join me and other local runners next year for 2/3 days in the sunshine and get away from it all.

The facts:

Race day - Sunday 7th February 2010

This is now in its 22nd year

Around 1000 runners - some top elite runners and a group of Kenyans who come over to win the big money.

3,000 Euros 1st - 2,000 Euros 2nd and 1,000 Euros for 3rd, same for the ladies, so not bad for a couple to collect 6,000 Euros for just over an hour’s work!

Great sponsorship

Superbly organised

Televised on local Spanish TV

Goodie bag and T-shirt

Very supportive crowds

First 10k along the beach front and when the weather is nice, usually about 15 degrees at the start, it makes it even more enjoyable

Temperature approx 19-21 degrees

Flight cost Manchester/Malaga return approx £70/£80

Hotel cost approx £18-£22 per night half board

2 hours flight, 3 minutes walk to the train station, 3 stops down the line, 5 minutes walk to hotel, if we book in the same one – see list below.

Start of race is about 500 yards from the hotel and if we get the same hotel as last time, we run past it

And the best bit.....the race is FREE!!!!, which makes it even more unique

Besides the race, there are lots to see and do and a trip to the crocodile park 10 minutes away is a must!

We have been known to have a drink or two and as I run for a club with a reputation for having a great social side, this one is just up our street.

Listed below are some details you may want to look at.

Race entries not yet open, but keep an eye on the site.

So, if any of our runners, all abilities, fancy a go then I would recommend this race. We may even do our club proud and walk away with some prizes, I don't see why not! Which by the way are presented on a large stage with local dignitaries and a TV crew, not that I’ll ever step on to that stage!!!
