The sun was shining when 14 A&T runners arrived at Chesham Playing Fields, Bury. However, the fact that it had rained for several days prior meant that the field was waterlogged.
The ladies were first with 1 small + 2 large laps. First A&T finisher, with a return to form after injury, was Brenda Wane. She was followed closely by Sue Hopkins, who had another great run. Lyndsey Carter was next followed 40 seconds later by Jodie Wagstaff & Michelle Fairclough, who crossed the line together. Abbie Eckersley finished just over 1 minute later & Marjorie Leigh completed the line-up with a solid run.
Next it was the turn of the men (1 small + 4 large laps) The rain, which started during the ladies race, was still coming down throughout the race. In the absence of Simon Ford, who was saving himself for the Lancaster Half on Sunday so formed one half of the support team along with Craig’s daughter Caitlin, yours truly, Mark Riches, was first A&T finisher. Troy Topping, who was still suffering from the after effects of a bad cold, did not finish. Peter Mulleady, who finished next, had a good run. Shaun Moran had another solid run closely followed by Terry Gardiner, who seems to improve with every race. Craig Bradbury was next having run the whole race without a number after he discovered that he had the wrong number on when he lined up at the start. Luckily I was able to advise the timekeepers of Craig’s correct number to avoid a repeat of last week when Craig appeared on the SEL results under the name of Steve Eldridge! John Lee, making a welcome return to racing for A&T, completed the line-up.
Brenda’s hot drinks & biscuits were a welcome distraction from the cold & wet weather (thanks Brenda)
